Same-day Crowns

When a tooth is cracked, decayed, or damaged, a crown may need to be fitted onto the tooth. Crowns can whiten, reshape, and realign existing teeth, adding to a healthy and vibrant smile.

How CEREC® Same Day Crowns Work
Our CEREC® system can be used to create crowns, veneers and onlays in the same day. We take digital images with the CEREC®  software, and using the CAD/CAM technology, a computerized 3D image of the mouth is created. We then use the software to design your crown based on the size and shape of your other teeth and/or the ideal position of the tooth.

The designed crown is then sent to our milling machine, which cuts the crown out of a block of porcelain in about 10 minutes. After we have assured the crowns fit in your mouth, most of the crowns (this depends on the material used) are fired for 25 minutes before being cemented in place.  This eliminates the need for you to wear a temporary crown and come back for a permanent one. Since the software is so accurate, there is very little need to make any adjustments once the crown is in place.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a ceramic or composite material shaped like a natural tooth, which fits onto the existing tooth after some tooth material has been removed to allow space for the crown. There are certain criteria for choosing to use dental crowns.

Why Choose Dental Crowns?

  • When a large filling is removed and there is insufficient natural tooth remaining.
  • As protection for a weak tooth at risk of fracturing, to include root canal teeth.
  • Cover dental implants.
  • Cover misshapen, or deformed teeth.
  • Restoration of fractured teeth.
  • To reface a badly discolored tooth.

Dental Crown Maintenance

Crowns may be damaged by the same habits that damage natural teeth. It is possible for crowns to detach, crack, chip and discolor. It is important to follow a healthy dental hygiene routine and avoid hard foods, and foods that discolor teeth. Gum and bone disease is an ongoing health consideration, and may lead to problems with your dental crown or bridge. It is important that you continue regular dental examinations and cleanings.
